Pre-K1

The ages of four to five years are critical for the emerging learner to be prepared for elementary school. In the Pre-K 1 program, your child will gain the final components of literacy and math knowledge to prepare for kindergarten. Many of our preschools also offer a Pre-K 2 program for those who do not make the traditional age cut-off for kindergarten.

In this program, children ages four to five gain the final components of literacy and math skills they will need for kindergarten. This is a particularly active time when your child will learn to follow oral directions, make predictions based on prior knowledge and write his or her first name with appropriate cases. Pre-K 1 children will learn sound and letter relationships, and expand their understanding of the meaning of words and stories. In math, they will learn to understand concepts such as more and less, and develop their number sense.

Language and Literacy

As your child becomes more comfortable with sounds and letter relationships, teachers will introduce beginning and ending sounds. While reading stories, your child will be asked to use critical thinking skills to predict outcomes.

Wellness

Continuing to use the award-winning SPARK program, your child will develop fine and gross motor skills by taking part in age-appropriate eye-hand coordination activities.

Mathematics

Using the strong foundation of number concepts that your child has built, the teacher will plan experiences involving critical thinking skills like patterning and categorizing.

Music

Teachers will encourage your child to experiment with sounds and tempo using simple instruments and clapping patterns, and by experiencing music from various cultures.

The World and Me

Your child is continuing to mature and become aware of actions and consequences. Teachers will encourage your child to verbally express feelings and behaviors, and to act appropriately.

Art

Taking art skills to the next level, your child will participate in activities that ask for complex pictures with detailed representation and the creation of designs using various media such as peg boards, paint, clay and 3D models.

Spanish

With a solid foundation built in the last two years, our curriculum emphasizes an active use of the Spanish language. Your child will be exposed to stories and activities with more Spanish words.

My Community & Environment

By linking your child to the community and environment, teachers will introduce symbols and people connected to certain holidays and traditions of various cultures. Your child will also discuss the role of animals, plants and insects in our world and begin the study of maps and globes.
